I am currently enjoying my stay here in Hythe, Kent whilst meeting lots of familiar faces from my previous times in the parish – the ‘usual suspects’!
My few words at Mass today focused on this verse of the gospel: “So take care how you hear; for anyone who has will be given more; from anyone who has not, even what he thinks he has will be taken away.’ (Lk 8:18)
This seems to be similar to the worldly ABBA hit ‘Winner takes it all’ (1980). ABBA however are referring to winners who have all the money, power, prestige, charisma and good looks. Jesus is referring to those who live sacrificially like him – e.g. where he says “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many”. (Matt 20:28)
