Pope Benedict XVI believes the consensus scientific opinion that there is an impending environmental disaster looming. This is clearly shown in his World Peace Day Message of 2010 http://w2.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/messages/peace/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20091208_xliii-world-day-peace.html
Pope Francis’ statements show a similar concern and his next encyclical letter is expected to be devoted to this topic. This is a recent statement of his delivered on Earth Day (Apr 22nd): … he urged all to “see the world through the eyes of God the Creator: the earth is the environment to protect and the garden to cultivate. The relationship between man and nature must not be governed by greed, manipulation and exploitation, but rather should preserve the divine harmony between creatures and creation, in the logic of respect and care, to place it at the service of our brothers and for future generations”.
The following poem is a reminder of how we can see God in the world of nature. It comes from JOURNEY TO OUR LADY, March/April 2015 edition.
