Yesterday I received an appointment from University Hospital Galway in relation to my expected bone marrow transplant next spring. I will be meeting the supervising consultant on Nov 23rd. My brother John arrives home from NY today for a week’s visit which coincides nicely with my being off chemo and visits to Cork.
Every week the Holy Spirit speaks a ‘Word’ to the Church. This word comes from the God’s Truth in the Sunday scripture readings – particularly the Gospel – and it is meant to give a special focus for how we live our lives.
Last Sunday’s gospel was Jesus’ encounter with the Rich Young Man. He was so attached to his earthy goods and life-style, that he was unable to accept Jesus’ invitation to ‘Come and follow me.”
This is part of Pope Francis’ commentary on last Sunday’s ‘Word’ to the Church.
“Only in welcoming with humble gratitude the Lord’s love do we free ourselves from the seduction of idols and the blindness of our illusions. Money, pleasure and success dazzle us, only to disappoint us later. They promise life but bring death. The Lord asks us to detach ourselves from these false riches to enter into true life, a full life, that is authentic and luminous… To entrust oneself to the Lord. He will give us strength; He will give us salvation; He will accompany us along the journey”.
