6th January – Solemnity of the Epiphany

Yesterday I had a routine chemo clinic in Cork. This Friday will be my last treatment as next week is an OFF week and then I begin the bone marrow transplant the following week Jan 18. I spoke to the liaison nurse in Galway today and was relieved that the lingering cold I have at present will not delay the transplant.

As we reflect on the visit of the Magi – the Three Kings/Wise Men – to theepiphany baby Jesus, the Intercessions from Morning Prayer gives us food for thought. Try reading the following slowly and reflectively. At the end of each, say your own personal AMEN.

Today, the Magi knelt before our Saviour. Let us also worship him with great joy.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, manifested in the flesh [human nature]:

sanctify us by the word of God and by prayer.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, vindicated in the Spirit;

free our lives from the spirit of discord.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, seen by angels;

give us even now a share in the joy of heaven.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, preached among the nations;

move all hearts by the power of your Spirit.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, believed in by the world;

renew your disciples’ faith.

Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

Christ, taken up in glory:

enkindle in us the desire of your kingdom.

  • Light of all light, reveal yourself this day.

A hymn that makes today’s solemnity come alive is WE THREE KINGS. If you would like to watch it on youtube, this is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8mjRxkMBkE
