I had the big test in Cork today – X-Rays and MRI scan at 9.30am followed by bone marrow biopsy at 12 noon. Results should be known within the week. The bone marrow biopsy is the gold standard test for the level of cancer activity in the body. With local anaesthetic the consultant is able to insert a needle through soft tissue of the hip joint and withdraw some of the bone marrow. This is then looked at under a microscope and the proportion of cancer cells (if any) is measured.

While I was waiting to be picked up by Maureen, I went into the hospital chapel to catch uppray-for-mercy with the Divine Office (Brievary). The depth of wisdom in this stanza of Psalm 24(25) struck me. The Psalms were the hymns of ancient Israel and speak the language of the heart more than the language of the head/intellect. If we could get this right in our lives, we’d be all set! Read the following stanza slowly and prayerfully.

  1. LORD, MAKE ME KNOW YOUR WAYS.
  2. LORD, TEACH ME YOUR PATHS.
  3. MAKE ME WALK IN YOUR TRUTH, AND TEACH ME:
  4. FOR YOU ARE GOD MY SAVIOUR.
