This evening I went to say prayers for James who probably died last night. Please remember him in your prayers.
Today is the feast of St John, Apostle and Evangelist. There are numerous references in the liturgy to his being the BELOVED DISCIPLE and particularly to his leaning on the breast of Christ in the Last Supper. It is suggested that this special intimacy he had with Christ was the basis of his surpassing insight into the Jesus’ life and teaching as shown in the fourth gospel.
We are all called to this friendship and intimacy with Jesus. Perhaps we can do a simple meditative prayer exercise of leaning on the breast of Christ in a circumstance similar to the Last Supper. Remain in this privileged position for at least a few minutes.
