Why did the second person of the Blessed Trinity, the Word of God, enter our world 2000 years ago? One primary reason was to redeem us from sin and reconcile humanity to God. Jesus is the (sacrificial) Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. In the Last Supper he said that his Blood would be poured out for “the forgiveness of sin”.
A second reason was to reveal God and Divine Truth. The second reading on Christmas Day from HEBREWS said: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various and fragmentary ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”
Given this second reason, a fundamental mission of all Christians is to witness and promote God’s Truth in our world. This is the topic of an article in the Christmas edition of the ALIVE! Newspaper.
